Southern Apple Pie
6 cups thinly sliced apples (tart)
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
1/2 cup of sugar (granulated)
1/4 cup of all purpose flour
1/4 cup of brown sugar (packed)
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon (ground)
1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg (ground)
A dash of cloves (ground)
Directions
You can use one of your own pie crust recipes or buy one from the refrigerated section of your supermarket. This recipe is for a top and bottom crust, so you will need two crusts for a 9 inch pan.
Heat the oven to 425 degrees fahrenheit. Place the pie crust in the pie pan, pushing firmly to the side and the bottom of the pan. The crust that is hanging over can be trimmed. Combine all the pie filling ingredients in a large bowl and mix lightly. Fill the pie crust you just placed in the pan with the filling and put the second pie crust onto the top. Wrap extra pie crust under the edge of the pan. Press or pinch the edges together to seal the two crusts at the edges. Cut two or three slits in the top part of the crust. The edges should be covered with foil for the first 25 minutes of the baking. Bake the pie for about 45 minutes or until the crust is a golden brown. Serves 6 to 8.
